A Career of Reckless Spending
Professional politician Rep. Lois Frankel (D-FL 21) is a big government progressive with a long, tangled history with term limits laws in Florida.
Frankel was in the Florida House of Representatives for fourteen years (1986-1992 and 1994-2002) when the legislative Term Limits Amendment — which she opposed — took effect and she could not run again. She was mayor of West Palm Beach (2003-2011) leaving office due to term limits but not without a fight. She tried to upend the voter-approved 8-year term limit. First, she called for a charter review commission stacked with political cronies. Everyone, including the Palm Beach Post, saw through this and due to public outcry she pulled the plug on her charter but followed with other failed attempts to avoid the term limit law.
Then she was elected to Congress in 2011.
We’re working on term limits on Congress, but she opposes the effort and has not cosponsored the term limits amendment bill introduced by Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC). So, near-term we’re taking the direct approach by challenging her reelection with a serious highly competent candidate again in 2024.
For over 40 years the Blumel family has been actively supporting term limits efforts on all levels of elected office. Our son Philip Blumel is currently president of U.S. Term Limits.
Frankel’s opposition to term limits is of a piece with her general empowerment of government at the expense of the citizenry. She has supported, and has been supported by, Big Government left-wing groups.
In January 2013, Lois Frankel was listed as a new member of the openly socialistic Congressional Progressive Caucus founded in 1991 by Bernie Sanders. In 2018 she was joined by a batch of freshmen as the Democratic party lurched further to the left including the group known as ‘The Squad.” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and a couple dozen others including the current chair of the Squad Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA). In the 118th Congress. There are 97 declared Progressives in the 118th Congress.
I like to paraphrase St. Matthew by saying that it is “by their votes ye shall know them.” So, let’s look at Rep. Frankel’s record as scored by indicative groups (click on the name for voting details):
Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) ranks her in their top 15% of political liberalism for most recent years published.
Citizens Against Government Waste awards her the low score of 2% as “Hostile to Taxpayers.” Only Frankel and five others scored so low! Reckless spenders like Frankel got us to the national debt of more than $34 trillion dollars, or $93,500 per person, in 2024.
National Taxpayers Union (NTU) currently scores her at 11% with an “F” grade as a “Big Spender.”
The Club for Growth Foundation rates on votes that affect economic growth such as lower taxes, balanced budgets, free trade, term limits, school choice and other factors affecting freedom and prosperity. The Club gives Frankel a lifetime 0% of a 100%.
Heritage Action is the policy advocacy affiliate of the conservative Heritage Foundation, the opposite of socialism. As expected, she unquestioningly follows the party line of socialistic taxing and spending and scores 0% for Current Session and o% Lifetime. See some of her current positions –check here before you vote this year.
Bottom line: Lois Frankel is a far-left careerist and was in total opposition to President Trump’s tax and regulation reform that energized our economy, reduced unemployment and increased incomes on all levels, especially lower incomes that had stagnated for many years. Now she totally supports the Biden administration that has reversed all the previous administration’s successes.
A recent initiative on her part was to sponsor a petition drive to “tell the Trump administration to not rig the census.” Her group explained it this way: “Donald Trump and Republicans want to rig and politicize the census. By failing to recognize LGBTQ Americans and families, and by insisting upon a citizenship question to target undocumented residents, they want to skew the numbers and paint an inaccurate picture of America’s population.”
Translation: The Democratic Party needs all the votes they can get and by dividing residents into protected groups like the LGBTQs they hope to claim those votes. But mainly they want to count illegal aliens in the census. In California alone the numbers of illegals, if counted, would add additional congressional seats even though illegals are not eligible to vote. Of course, they do vote. Why else would California sue to block the move arguing that it would discourage (illegal) immigrants from participating (read: voting).
Some other political positions: Against the Second Amendment and for gun control; Against repeal of Obamacare; For socialistic Medicare for All; For economy-killing federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions; For extreme pro-abortion laws—she filed a Bill against state abortion bans. She follows the party line faithfully.
This Poster is more personal than most as I live in her district. Between now and the primary elections we look forward to reviewing the candidates challenging this hardcore tax-and-spend Democrat. We’ll be supporting the challenger Dan Franzese who won the primary knowing that the odds are long against us. Incumbents win 95% of the time for many decades and that dissuades qualified candidates from spending the time and expense of running –not to mention personal and family abuses to endure from career pols who will do anything for reelection. Incumbents have name recognition, cash from lobbyists and because of such incumbent advantages a lack of serious challengers. And that is why we need non-partisan constitutional term limits.
In 2020 we had a couple of qualified candidates that could not overcome the advantages of incumbency and again this year there are qualified contenders. With the Democrat administration and Congressional majority killing the economy with overspending and inflation, maybe enough Democrats and Independents will see Frankel’s participation in the damage to our living standards — and our security– with open borders, defunding police, Afghanistan debacle, indebting our children and all other failures of the Biden administration that Lois Frankel supports entirely.
Socialism has failed wherever it takes control. This career pol supports that failure for our country. Her records are loud and clear. This year –against all odds—her term must be limited at the ballot box. It can be done.
Great article. A rare example of Journalism in the traditional sense. Replete with references and sources.
I’m an active supporter of Term Linits though I’m convinced that only an Article V Convention of States will ever yield desired results.
